Well these past two weeks of no blogging has caught up to me! We had a nice long break from school last week due to the big snowstorm and I really did nothing but baby stuff and relax. I did finish my Wild About Sight Words: Parent Edition. This idea came from one I saw on Pinterest from Learning with a Happy Heart blog. She did a booklet similar to mine but I needed one to work with our Treasures Reading Series. I made this and sent it home last week for extra practice. The kids love the minute to win it challenge.
You can grab your free copy by clicking the image below. This would be perfect for 3rd quarter conferences!
Today I started my Dr. Seuss activity days and today was Lorax themed. I really found a lot of these ideas from other awesome teachers out there. I just tweaked a few of the lessons to make them work for my kiddos. Here are some snapshots and credits. If you would like any copies I can scan them at school and email them to you. Just let me know.
Snack & Chat With Buddies
Our snack of choice truffula trees (cheddar popcorn)
I used these questions to prompt buddy discussion. I can’t remember where I got these from so if you know please let me know so I can give credit. I use it all the time and have had them for awhile.
Truffula Tree Missing Addend Math Activity
I took two ideas I found and pushed them together to fit our common core element. The truffula addition idea with the pom-poms and ten frame came from First Grade W.O.W. How cute and easy is this? The work page the students filled out came from here. I just added the Lorax to make it fit the theme for the day.
The timing couldn’t have been better for this activity. We just finished up Unit 4 Week 2 in Treasures (recycling), so the kids were excited about this. This went perfect with the Lorax because it talks about how important it is to take care of our Earth.
You can grab your copy of this recycle sort here.
Happy Hump Day!!!!
I will post more pictures from our themed days as they come ; )
