Can someone say STRESSED because I am pretty sure that is my feeling this past week. I am happy to say that I have all my grades posted and I just finished my last scrapbook to give to my parents. School will be officially over tomorrow at noon...yes you heard it right! I wanted to share a few things that made my week so amazing. My kids are always trying to surprise me and make me happy and they definitely took the cake this week. I showed up to school on Monday with my door decorated and a very large supply cake. I think I was more excited about the glue sticks than anything. I swear my kids eat them.
I also had my stool "stolen" last week, which I was not happy about. I soon came to find out that my homeroom mom Mrs. Lisa took it to jazz it up a bit and I must say it fits my personality much better.
But, the best gift of all was the scrapbook my kids put together for me when I had a sub. We had been learning about adjectives and they each made a flower describing me. They were just precious. I think I loved that my kids used the word curious on all the flowers. That was our vocabulary word of the week in our Treasures series. Too funny!
To top off teacher appreciation week our building got some pretty amazing news…… We are not only a state school of character, but also a NATIONAL SCHOOL OF CHARACTER!!!! I'm not gonna lie I cried like a baby when we got this award delivered to our school during an assembly. It was a total surprise. I am so proud to be a BLUE JAY! One thing I started doing this quarter to strengthen character between myself and my kids was to create a wanted board outside my classroom. My students can pin anything they would want me to come to (baseball games, birthday parties, soccer games, or even cheer competitions). I don't have any kids of my own so it's easy for me to give up an hour of my evening to watch my students do something they love.
I want to end this post to let some of my followers know why I have not been the best about posting or making many units or freebies lately. My mom was diagnosed with ovarian cancer almost two years ago and about 4 months ago she was diagnosed with breast cancer. This has made it hard to balance a classroom, school, family and my blog. I am happy to say that my mom finished her last treatment and released her bundle of pink balloons. She recently had her surgery last week and is feeling pretty good.
Last year I donated 100% of my earnings in the month of September (ovarian cancer awareness month) to GYNCA, an organization where 75% of donations go directly to women and their families suffering from ovarian cancer. I plan to do the same thing next year and would love to get other bloggers out there to join in. Let me know if this is something you would be interested in joining in on! Have a wonderful week and just keep teaching. The year is almost over.
